Nirvana fue un grupo estadounidense de grunge. Con el éxito del sencillo "Smells Like Teen Spirit", del álbum Nevermind, Nirvana escaló las listas musicales en todo el mundo e inició la explosión de lo que hasta ese momento era punk underground y rock alternativo en la escena musical mundial, en un movimiento al que los medios de la época se referirían como "grunge".

Green Day es una banda estadounidense de rock formada en 1989 por Billie Joe Armstrong y Mike Dirnt, a los que se sumó un año más tarde Al Sobrante para fundar Sweet Children, que más tarde sería renombrada Green Day.
Fue uno de los impulsores de la segunda oleada punk.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN

Es una banda de metal alternativo.
En un comienzo se llamaron Soil, pero luego adoptaron el nombre "System of a Down" inspirados por el poema Victims of a Down escrito por el guitarrista Daron Malakian.
Son famosos por realizar canciones con líricas que mantienen una ideología en contra del maltrato infantil, la violencia, la guerra, la pornografía violenta y machista, el dominio del dinero sobre la sociedad, las diferencias sociales, físicas e ideológicas de cada ser humano, la intolerancia, la discriminación; entre otros, de los principales temas en los que ésta banda se muestra en contra.

Esta banda pertenece al Alternative Metal, Hard core y Post grunge. La banda debe su nombre a un incidente cuando Burnley tiró casualmente el micrófono al suelo, rompiéndolo. La persona que era propietaria del micrófono en el escenario llegó y dijo: "Denle gracias a Benjamin por romper mi maldito micro".

Rage Against the Machine (Rage o R.A.T.M.) es un grupo musical estadounidense de Rapcore fundado en el año 1990 por Tom Morello y Zack de la Rocha. Junto con Tim Commerford y Brad Wilk, el grupo tocó durante toda la década de los años 90 hasta su disolución en 2000. Luego se tomaron un descanso indefinido hasta que en abril de 2007 y coincidiendo con la disolución de Audioslave anunciaron su regreso en el festival de música de Coachella en California, era la primera vez que tocaban todos juntos en siete años. A raíz de esto, la banda ha continuado dando conciertos en varios festivales. Incluso no se descarta la posibilidad de sacar un nuevo disco.
Su estilo característico es una sólida fusión de hip hop, rap, funk, punk, hardcore y hard rock. Los solos del guitarra de Tom Morello se recalcan por sus prominentes usos de pedales y efectos, y sobresalen sus emulaciones de los scratch y otros efectos de los djs de hip hop. El cantante, Zack de la Rocha, participó en grupos de punk y hardcore metal antes de volverse un apasionado de las rimas del rap: de ahí viene su estilo agresivo de rapear y los fuertes gritos que incluye en algunas canciones. Se aprecia también un pequeño toque de jazz por parte del bajista Tim Commerford, que perteneció a un grupo de ese estilo a mediados de los años 1980; finalmente, la batería de Brad Wilk está cargada de ritmos funk especialmente contundentes. Este estilo de fusión fue más tarde imitado por otras bandas, atribuyéndosele la etiqueta de Rapcore o Rap metal.
Sus letras son rotundas, en contra del capitalismo y la globalización, y las formas de pensamiento, mentalidad y relación social que generan.
